Google Yourself

Tomorrow is the beginning of a long weekend in China. Which means, many of my friends, including myself are not in the mood for work at this time. I received an email from DL (since her company blocked MSN, we chat using email) telling me that she is bored and sleepy. I told her that I was playing Metropolis on Facebook, but her company blocked Facebook too. Poor DL. So the only way that she could stay entertained is to Google.

Yeah… but what to Google? Easy, Google the name of your friends, your enemies, your long lost school mates, etc. I know… it’s darn ‘mou-liu’. But it’s indeed very fun when you’re really bored.

I tried Googling some long lost friends. Most of them appeared as Facebook search results, some not available at all and there are even some who appeared on internet news!! Amazing and amusing! Also, try Google images and type in your name. Am sure you will find tones of your own pics, most of it from Facebook and Flickr pics.

It’s indeed a good way to kill time. But after I experiment with this, I really have no respect for Google anymore. All your information and pictures are made available so freely over the internet at Google search engine. Yeee… feel so exposed now.

Local vs Foreign Taste

Last weekend, I bought my Dad who is here for a visit in Shanghai to a Singapore restaurant and ordered Roti Canai for him. He has been craving for one after a week of chinese food.

Many of my Malaysian friends who work here, including myself, agreed that the roti canai that we can get here taste much better than those back from home. The reason being that they are thinner, crispier and thus, the feeling of having that crispy roti canai in our mouth makes it taste much better than those we get at local mamak stalls.

I asked my Dad what he thinks of the roti canai, and to my surprise, he agreed that it was much nicer than those back home. Coming from someone so Malaysian and a fan of local mamak roti canai, there is truly no doubt that Roti in Shanghai taste much better than the Roti from Malaysia. That is why I always tell my friends that I do not crave for roti canai, because I can get better and tastier ones here. Haha!

The Great Firewall of China - The Motherblocker

I HATE it when it happens again! Yes, and it happened this round. China has yet again blocked all major anonymous site and Blogspot!! This is so frustrating. This round, they are wiser and blocked blogger.com as well. Not only we are barred from reading blogs, we can't post anything as well. Damn!!!

The Great Firewall of China, you Motherblocker!!!

I can still blog and I can still read blogs... no matter how you block, people still find the way around it because WE CAN!!!!!! Block you!

This tool that I am using is so sophisticated and unlike the previous Privoxy TOR that I used, it does not slow down the connection rate at all. Perfect tool! I ain't afraid of you, you Motherblocker!!

Wedding Anniversary

13-May-2003 is the day we signed the papers. It has been 6 years!!! Time flies and it really doesn't feel that long at all.

It really doesn't matter that Hubby is not here to celebrate this day with me. All that matters is that we still love each other. We have been through so much fun, tears, hardship and laughter. I cherish every moment, and will continue to do so for as long as I could. Love is not about being in someone's life; it's about being part of someone's life.

Baby, Happy Anniversary!!
To many, many more years to come, live, learn and grow old together.
I love you, B!

Hk Trip - May Holidays

I left Shanghai on 30th evening on flight FM811 to Hong Kong, the same day that the H1N1 infected Mexican stepped foot into HK via Shanghai. Thank God I wasn’t in the same flight as him. But the fact that he was there at the airport before me sends chills down my spine.

I was alone coz Nicole and EC had arrived a day earlier. I checked into hotel and just a few minutes after, I met them with KK at the lobby. We went for a western dinner at Harbour City near Avenue of Stars.

After dinner, we went for a walk along the Avenue of Stars. HK was windy and chilly at night. We had a couple of drinks at a pub where I ordered… hot milk! Needed that to ease my stomach from the up and coming gastric which I could feel it coming. Glad I had milk.

The first night at hotel was bad. I couldn’t sleep. I wasn’t comfortable with the room. The air-cond vent was hitting directly to my head and the pillow was not comfy. Had the room changed the following day and I had no trouble sleeping after that.

On May 1st, I woke up early and went for a morning walk with Nicole down Temple Street, which was just opposite our hotel. We had a very local breakfast at a small stall selling dim sum.

After breakfast, we met the guys at Central and headed to Stanley Market. OMG! Because it was Labor day, this place was full of Filipinos and we wondered how and when did we land in Philippines??

We took some pictures.

My first shopping... bought a cheap and good shopping bag as I forgot to bring one. Needed that to keep stuffs.

It was really hot at daytime in HK.. feels like 30 degrees or so. We had a couple of group shots, good thing EC bought a tripod for this trip! Here are some pictures taken at Stanley Beach.

After a tiring walk, we had a truly satisfying break at a café where we had ice cream, nachos and beer.

Next stop, we went to Yung Kee. KK mentioned that this place if famous for it's roast duck and ordered one. It was good but very expensive. Couldn't tell if it was really worth that price. But it was a good meal.

After Stanley Beach, we went back to Central and spent some time shopping at IFC mall.

Took the ferry from HK Island back to Kowloon. We went back to hotel to freshen up before heading back to the Avenue of Stars for a simple dinner.

EC wanted to try out his tripod and we spent hours at Avenue of Stars experimenting with camera and taking pictures.

We were happily taking group photos when suddenly....

LOOK!!! What's up there!!?? It's a plane... it's a bird... it's ..... 4 stooges doing donkey poses in the public!!

KK, if you're reading this, can you tell me what are you trying to do here??

Before calling it a day, we went to Lan Kwai Fong for a drink. Nothing really special here and I still prefer Xintiandi at Shanghai.

Day 2 was really bad for me. HK govt raised the severity of H1N1 from serious to emergency because of the confirmed first case. Service industries have everyone wearing mask and antiseptic hand gel was sold off instantly.

Here's the story that really got me agitated. We woke up early and had breakfast at a nearby char chan teng.

Then I accompanied Nicole to Wong Tai Sin.

Waited a while for her while she paid her respect to Wong Tai Sin. After that, we left Wong Tai Sin and headed back to hotel MTR Jordan station. This was when Nicole realised she left her sunglasses at Wong Tai Sin. Ok... went back all the way there to get it and thank 'Wong Tai Sin' it was found. That was the first case which left me very tired and annoyed. Luckily Nicole paid for my chee cheong fun later... ok, that made up her mistake of leaving the sunglasses back there!

Second, KK sent me a SMS informing of change of plan. The SMS did not reach me and we ended up at Causeway Bay at 3pm waiting for the guys who obviously did not turn up. Waste of time again! We end up spending time walking around Times Square aimlessly. By the time we met them for dinner, I was already darn tired. We had a good dessert though, but at that time, everyone ended up looking like this:

Seriously! We're not wearing this for fun!! HK was like in a panic mode. Geezz!

I really don't know how to describe my HK trip. I had fun, but at the same time, troubled feelings. Troubled by the recent first H1N1 case in Asia. The fact that my Hubby's in Texas bothers me even more.

I really hope this Swine Flu does not spread any further. It did spoil my holiday mood in a way :(
Overall, I had a lot of fun being with my friends especially on day 1. Special thanks to KK for spending his time with us over the holiday weekend!

House Chores

Hubby just left for airport and heading to US. I am alone again. I did some cleaning, putting away all the winter stuffs. I know I should have done this long time ago but I have been busy for the past weeks.

I bought vacuum bag for compacting bulky clothes last night. I was trying to see if it works coz Winston told me his does not work.

This was how my winter sheets looks like.

I place them in the bag and used the vacuum cleaner to remove the air. The effect was indeed quite compact.

Ta da!!!! Big difference between the 'before' and 'after' effect. It really saves so much on storage space. Not bad, I have decided to get more of these.

Work & Fun - Tongli

Some of my friends are aware that I have been travelling from Shanghai to Wujiang at least twice every week, waking up early at 6am for the 1.5 hour journey. Very tiring.

After all these hard work, my boss decided to give us a treat - a small group outing at Tongli, a water village nearby Wujiang. We left Wujiang office at 3pm and head to Tongli Lakeview Resort. Nice place, very serene. I love this place and it's a good chance to get away from Shanghai's polluted environment.

Picture taken with Jane & Kathy at hotel lobby.

This picture is taken from my hotel room. Nice view, serene and peaceful.

Group picture of the project team taken at the resort.

This is Lida... the external consultant and the youngest in the team. She is usually quiet in office but on this day, very talkative and outgoing. Young girl and daring... she has some really outstanding pose for the cameras.

After checking in and taken a couple of pics at the resort, the team headed to Tongli watertown, and everyone's looking happy. After a 15 minutes walk, we finally reached the entrance of Tongli.

Me and Todd, our Project Manager who will soon be leaving back to the states in June.

Everyone's playing with DSLR... we have 3 sets on this day. Photographers spent a lot of time exchanging views and opinions and photography, taking pictures and having me, Jane, Lida posing as models. Yeah... lame, but we enjoyed the process as well as the results.

I like the following 2 pictures... of Jane taken by me and of me taken by Jane, both using my normal Panasonic Lumix.

Picture of me and Jane taken by Gordon, a natural piece.

We had a lot of fun. I will be staying at this place again for the coming 2 weeks... I kinda like this place and don't mind leaving home for a couple of days. :)

Jane, Carleen, Kathy and myself posing on day 2, before we leave for Wujiang factory.
