It's a Pass!!

The results of my curry. This time, I passed the final test! No bitter, no black, just... Curry. A bit spicy though, but it tastes good!

My successful curry chicken...

And vege with shredded pork...

With carrot soup...

Our dinner...

Topped with some fresh cherries for dessert!

My Hubby loves my cooking... and I'm happy today! :))
.

One Last Try

Today, I'm gonna try to cook curry chicken for one last time. The first time I cooked, the curry became bitter. I have no idea why. The second time, the whole curry chicken became black... and I have to throw the whole thing away. My friend said it's because I did not add any water. But the instructions didn't say have to add water. Or is this supposed to be common sense? Sorry-la... I have never cooked curry before. I just added very watery santan and thought it would work, but it didn't.

So, today's gonna be the big day. I will try using the liquid curry packet which Princess Eileen gave me before she left Shanghai. If this fails, I swear not to cook curry again! Will take a snapshot and write about the end results, whether success or not.

Good Luck to me... in cooking curry!

Useless Me!

On Monday, I was asked to present a case on system implementation to fulfil Chinese PRC GAAP reporting. Of course... presentation was an easy task for me so I happily talked about it. It was convincing and client was happy with my proposed solution.

Today, they sent me some document formats. I was completely handicapped and I felt so useless... the documents are all in Chinese!!!! I was like 'Tiu lor'....

See this...

And this....

What are these?????

Luckily... managed to find some traslated PRC reports from the web.

This is the Chinese Balance Sheet:

And the Chinese P&L:

Still not giving the exact format that client requires. Guess I need help on translation. Totally useless of me! What am I doing in China??

My First Time

Yesterday, for the very first time in my life, I went to shoot myself. Meaning, shooting myself for the so-called 'Big-Head' photo shoot at those cute & colorful 'lil photo booths. Me, Princess Eileen and Elizebeth DL head on to Jingan Siao Ting to take some memorable pics before Princess Eileen leaves Shanghai and return to KL for good. Here are some of the photos of 'The Three Beauties' or 'The Three Female Stooges'

Hmmm... Not enough! We feel that this isn't enough. So, today, again... we went to take some photo shoots. But this time taken by professional photographers. We took some very sexy photographs. It will take some time to be developed. So... be patient. I will post them here.. but only if they look good, ok! Ha Ha! Are we nuts, or what??

Thief at Work

My laptop bag went missing. For the past 1 year, I was stationed at level 26 of United Plaza on Nanjing West Road. I left my laptop adapter, mouse and network cable lying on the table and the laptop bag lying on the floor all the time. Even at times when I was away for weeks, nothing happened. Last week, I moved down to level 5. I was placed at such an inconvenient location where everyone could see my screen. Darn! No privacy! Within a few days, I realized my laptop bag was gone! What??? Why would someone wanna steal a Dell, empty and ugly laptop bag???

I reported the loss to the security guard. He wanted me to write him a report. I was like… ‘Tiu… isn’t that your job?’ He insisted that I give him a written report. I told him that I couldn’t write Mandarin, that I can only write a report in English and he wouldn’t understand anyway. He asked me to get someone else to write it. WTF??? My friend suggested me to give him 10 Yuan and get him to kau-tim it for me. Huh? You think I will give someone 10 Yuan to write a stupid report that doesn’t even guarantee the return of the bag? Forget it! I can live without a stupid laptop bag!

To the thief who stole the bag… I hope you had fun ‘playing’ with that piece of shit! I made a complaint... I am moving back to level 26... yay!

Toxic

Toxic... I love the song by Britney Spears. But this post is not about the song. It is about Friends. Throughout my life, I have met many different types of people within my circle of friends. Some are sincere, whom I love most. Some are hilarious, some are darn serious, and some are just simply toxic.

Toxic friend I've had during school days... a girl who loves to boast. She loves to show off, and she loves to belittle others. She loves to talk bad about a person to others, and we all know she did it on purpose coz she wants the group to dislike the other person. Pure toxic. I remembered we all knew whats happening, but no one talked or discussed about it because we didn't want to spoil the group friendship. Things got worse during college times. She is so fake! Her lies of another person became so obvious that things just exploded one day at a party. She was confronted face on right in front of many people and she blew everything. It was pure silence... an awkward situation which I think most of us there could recall.

Toxic colleague that I've had during work. During lay off times, she cleverly told every junior scary stuffs about the layoff plans (as if she knows). Those who fall victim will quickly look for job and quit. She also passed our names to head hunters... her motive... to get everyone out so she could stay in the job! Pure toxic... very smart too.

Toxic boyfriend that I've had... those who two-timed me. Those are bloody bastards... 'nuf said.

Toxic friends in Shanghai, so far, None - Thank God. But I am sensing one coming. She is a new girl in Shanghai, blended in well in the group. But she is so, so fake. I am not sure if that's really her character, if that is, she is damn childish. If not, then I am right... darn fake. She asked questions... smart, indirect questions. She tries to dig info like how much we are earning here. So what if we earn more or less? What has it gotta do with you? With her attitude... no wonder she couldn't find a bf. She's not young. I am not trying to be mean, but it's true. If she doesn't change, every guy will be afraid of girls her attitude, unless those really itchy guys.

Well... if these people are toxic, I can be too... but I won't. It's not me. I will just be friends... but nothing other than plain friends. But if you continue to make use of me and take advantage of me this way... I'm afraid I'll just have to ask you to fuck off!

Most of you will think that I am nuts to write this crazy stuffs. I'm not trying to complain, but I'm a life blogger. I wanna read this 20 years later and laugh about it. Thats' all.

Friendship

Today, I found out that my Shanghai good friend is leaving me again. Since I set foot in Shanghai, I have had 1 good friend who left to Beijing… and another leaving soon, back to KL. This morning, the only one left told me that she is leaving to Canada! Why is everyone leaving me alone here?

*Sigh… I am happy for my friends going away for better their future, but losing them is something sad to me. I remembered a friend once told me… friendship journey is like riding on the subway. Every stop, there are friends getting on & off. Then it will finally be our turn, leaving the rest behind. But the beauty is… we can still keep in touch after we leave the train! Seems true, but I am still feeling sad.

To both my friends who will be leaving Shanghai…
  • I will feel lonely
  • There will be no more gossip session
  • There will be no more emails full of complains, tius and fucks to cheer me up
I will miss you gals… I already do…
.

Feeling Bored

Today, I just don’t feel like working. Maybe it’s because of the breach of trust incident. It's bothering me a bit. Not that I have anything important to do in office, but I still need to be here. My project is completed and I need to be here for standby, just in case the support team can’t handle the issues. As I write, I received an email requesting me to do a presentation this coming Wednesday. Arrghh! I hate presentations, even though it’s sup-sup-sui, I still hate it, ok.

My contract with my current employer is officially ending on 28th May. After that, I will be jobless. There is always an option for renewal, but I just don’t feel like renewing it. I think I may wanna go back to KL in June to settle my banking issues. Take a short break... and start working again later.

*Yawn* Feel so sleepy... I hate Mondays!

Breach of Trust

Can’t understand why some people can’t think straight? Do you just conveniently blurt out your best friend’s secret to some other people… and then apologize and says that you didn’t do it on purpose??? What the fuck are you thinking??? Not to mention that it was a very sensitive and private matter.

Though it didn’t happen to me, but I felt the hurt and anger inside me coz I was indirectly a victim. I felt shocked and hurt. How can someone be so immature?? For me, if possible, I wouldn’t want to speak to that person again. We can still be friends… but only on the surface. There can never be a friendship between us again. I can never trust someone like that. Period.

A Special Day

Today, apart from the world wide celebration for Mother's Day, it is also a very special day for me. It is my 4th year marriage anniversary. Wow! It has been 4 years of marriage and a total of 7 years being together... and it only feels like yesterday when we exchanged our vows.

Dearest Baby, we have been together for 7 years now. Though there are times when you are not around when I needed you, I tried very hard to understand that your being away for work is to secure a better future for both of us. Despite the many ups and downs, tears and laughter over the past 7 years, I still love you very much. I wish there will be many many more anniversaries to come. I love you, Baby!

I Don't Understand...Why?

This morning, while in the subway heading to work, I came across another 2 incidents which I really do not understand why the people here practice it.

A girl was quarrelling with her bf over the phone and she was speaking so loudly that I think the everyone in the carriage could hear. Wah... she really fierce! Goodness, don't we wanna keep all these confidential conversation to ourselves? Why can't she feel the shame???

This incident then reminded me of another which I encountered last month. Same thing... a guy was talking on the phone with his gf... and he was asking her things like.. "so now.. you choose me or him?".. stuffs like that. This is really not the first or second time I encounter this in Shanghai. I don't know what these people are thinking, but I think its rather rude to shout so loud over the phone in a public area and its rather shameful to have the whole world listening to your conversation.

The second incident that happened this morning: A man from the end of the carriage shouted! I thought what he was shouting about and I was thinking that it must be another chinese quarrels starting. But it's not. He was actually talking to another person who was standing like... 15 or 20 feet away?? What??? Why can't he walk over and speak to that person? And that person actually responded and shouted back his answer... it was in Shanghainese so I couldn't understand what they were saying. Damn! What on earth are these people thinking???

Now that I have mentioned, few weeks ago, I saw a girl in the subway. She was using a blackberry phone... something like that. She was wearing a long skirt. And you know what she wore on her feet? I think it was something like our fluffy, furry, slippers that we used to wear at home. It was pink! I was asking my hubby: Did she forgot to change the slippers on her way out, or did she wore this as a fashion???

She was wearing slippers like this!

Don't you think people in China are weird??

Seoul... The Extended Version

Day 1: Pudong - Incheon

8.30am: We took the subway all the way from Zhongsan Park station to Longyang station and hoped onto the Maglev. Maglev is the 2nd fatest bullet train built on German technology... travelling at 430km/hr (maybe the Chinese can't do this on their own). Since this is the second time we experienced Maglev, the feeling was not as thrilling as our first.

At the airport, something happened which spoilt our mood. Hubby's hair gel and my hair mousse got confiscated as they are >150ml, which are not allowed into the cabin. $@%$@#!! We didn't know that this rule applies internationally. Lucky all my facial products are in travel sizes... else I think I will cry!

The thing that pisses me off... instead of throwing the stuffs into the bin in front, they kept it into an underneath cabinet.. which only means one thing: They are going to take those confiscated products home for own use. I should consider to pump in some poison into the a cosmetic bottle next time... then let them use and their face go bengkak!! Kakaka!

Ok... cut the long story short. We boarded the plane and fly up, up and away, heading to Incheon, Korea. The first thing that Hubby did when we landed in Incheon....

Took his vitamin C for Cigarettes.

So we took the KAL limousine bus to our hotel.. and thanks to my perfect arrangment, the bus stops right in front of the hotel entrance.

About the hotel... This is an expensive hotel. So expensive that I was expecting something rather grand. But... dissappointment. The room was small... the bed was small... I called up front desk and asked if I was given the right kind of room. I told them the bed wasn't big enough for me and my hubby to roll around... hahhaha... kidding! But they say all their double sized bed are standard and they are actually that small! @%$#%#!!!

Since it's almost evening, we went out and took a walk around the hotel area. We headed towards a market called Namdaemun (南大门). Namdaemun was like out good ole Petaling Street, but 10 times bigger! We bought all the souveniers on this first night itself.

Namdaemun

Came across food stalls and we couldn't beat our curiosity. So we tried the large fresh oysters and the fried octopus. Yummy! It taste good.. they are really fresh. 1 single oyster and a small octopus cost KRW10,000 = USD10 approx. Not cheap eh.

Fried octopus

After all the walking and shopping, we headed back to hotel. On our way, we pass by City Hall and saw some traditional performance. The thing that I like about Seoul... I can cross the road with peace of mind. The car stops for pedestrians ... unlike Shanghai.

City Hall

Traditional performance

Day 2 : Seoul City Tour Bus

Day 2 started with a very expensive breakfast at hotel - KRW36,000 for 2 pax. Nothing special... normal continental and western breakfast.

We hopped on to the City Tour Bus.. also, thanks to my good planning, stops just nearby our hotel. The City Tour Bus is a hop on and off thingy... the bus goes to most of the tourist areas and we can get off, and then get on to the next bus after our visit. The bus ticket cost KRW10,000 per person. Cheap.

The first destination we went to was Namsan Traditional Village. We were happy to find that this place is Foc. no entrance fee required. But then we found out why it was free. There was nothing to see inside! Well... not exactly nothing, at least we get to see how their traditional homes looks like. Nothing special except that I realised everything was in mini sizes. The room, the bed, the hall, etc... makes me wonder.. are olden days' Koreans all widgets???

Namsan Traditional Village

Then we stopped by at the Seoul tower. But we decided not to proceed to the tower coz it looks really ugly. Nothing like our KL Tower and even nothing compared to Pudong's Oriental Pearl Tower. Anyway, we will be visiting this place again during the night tour.

Next, it was lunch time. We didn't know what to eat and ended up eating pasta in a food court. At least, it was a satisfying meal. Then, we headed to our next destnation, the War Memorial. I think this is the most fascinating location in Seoul. Being a normal person who has never been close to a war gadget, it was an eye opener for me. I saw old war planes, tanks, missiles, bombs (whatever they are) and get to feel what was it like inside them. Quite amazing.

War Memorial

Next, we went to Changyeonggung Palace. Sigh! They call this a palace??? They must be joking! It is nothing compared to China's Forbidden City. Not even close! But we must give them some credit la... since Korea only have 600 years worth of history, as opposed to China's 6,000 years of history! This palace was burnt down, rebuilt, then burnt again, then rebuilt, then burnt again... God knows how many times it was burnt down and rebuilt. But I was surprised to see so many
Chinese wordings on all their historical places. It just proves that they are originally from China as well, right?

The Palace Gate
Inside the Palace

That was the end of our day tour. I can't recall what we had for dinner on day 2. After dinner, we hopped on the City Tour Bus again for the night tour. The night tour bought us across the Han River. It is like Shanghai, a city separated into 2 by a huge river. All that this night tour showed us was bridges. Yes... bridges lighted up with beautiful lights... and God knows how many bridges are there across this river. I lost count... I think they have more than 10 bridges!!!!

2 of the bridges taken from the tour bus

Next, we stopped by at the Seoul Tower again. This tower looks much nicer at night compared to the day.

Seoul Tower

After that, it was back to the hotel. We were hungry and decided to have KFC for a satisfying meal... hahaha. It was satisfying. We went shopping at a duty free shop after that and it is where I bought my Baby a Tag Heuer as his Bday gift.

Day 3: Walk, Walk, Walk... the leg breaking experience

Day 3 was all about walking until our legs almost patah! We started off the day by walking to the nearby Jogyesa Temple. I just wanted to see how a Korean buddhist temple looks like. Guess it was just another temple. Nothing special except they used the colorful lanterns as canopies... nice.

Jogyesa Temple

Next, we walked to the National Folk Museum. It was a museum built under another palace (Seoul has many palaces). Nothing special about this museum either... museum is always a museum, with stuffs like how Korean language, Hangul, was created, the different Korean tradition, the food, the antiques.. etc.

The Museum

At the Museum

Some harvest festival statue

Now, enough of museum and palaces... time for shopping!!! Yohoo!!!! We walked to the nearby Insadong street. Holly cow!!!!! I thought shopping in Shanghai was amazing... but Shanghai shopping is nothing compared to Seoul! It's all about shopping everywhere in Seoul. Streets are full of pretty stalls and shops, and especially cosmetics... it's a heaven for girls! This street is so, so crowded!!!

Insadong

We decided to take the subway to get to the other side of the city. The ticket to just one station away cost KRW1,000 = USD1 - so expensive comparing to Shanghai! We encounter a very good experience in the subway. We bought the tickets and went through the wrong entrance. We were supposed to get on to the opposite side. So we were stuck and trying to figure out how to get over to the other side. Some Korean guy, speaking to us in Korean, though I could not understand a single word he says, but he was asking us to jump over the entrace bar. Wah sei!!! I was thinking: Jump? Or go under? Then a man came to our rescue. I think he is one of the workers in the subway... could not comfirm on that. He swiped his card twice and that allowed us to get out from the wrong gate and re-enter to the correct gate. It was nice. Good people in Seoul!

Inside the train

We had our dinner at some stalls again and we ordered ginseng chicken and kimchi stew. The ginseng chicken was tasteless and the kinchi stew was no good either.

Our lousy dinner

Towards the end of the day... we were so exchausted. But we still want to walk as this is our last day of tour in Seoul. We pass by City Hall again and this time, there was a huge crowd, something like a concert in the park. We saw the live performance of the very famous Korean Trio SG Wanna Be. Very nice oh... they sang good. Really good!

City Hall Concert

We walked again and pass by the Donghwamun river, the final destination before we return to our hotel. We were dead exchausted!!! My legs hurt!

Donghwamun River

Day 4: Incheon - Pudong

Day 4, time to go home. Sob sob! Packed and went out for our breakfast. We had our breakfast at a little cafe where we ordered coffee. Something happened after drinking this coffee..... read on.

At the caffe where I had my coffee

Taking the last picture of Seoul

We checked out and boarded the KAL Limousine bus again. On the way to airport, I felt that the coffee was wanting to come out of me. The driver was terrible... he drove so fast and during the turns at the corner, I almost died! The wasn't any sick bags around... I wanted to puke! But I can't because I was in the bus! It was the most horrifying experience! And once the bus reached Incheon airport, I walked to the nearest bin... and ..!!!!!!! My body threw all the coffee out of me. Yulks! Bad final day experience. I couldn't move after that as I felt sick and tired. I just sat on the bench while Hubby did the check in of our luggage. I bought some skincare and we didn't want anything to get confiscated again... so we decided to check in the luggage. We did our final shopping at Incheon airport... It was a truly wonderful trip.

In the end, I see Shanghai again... I hear Shanghainese again.... Sigh! How I wish that people in China can be as polite as people in Seoul. How I wish that crossing the streets of Shanghai can be as safe as crossing the streets of Seoul. But I love the food back here... I love the pricing back here... everything looks much cheaper and bigger, and better.... at last... back to my Shanghai apartment ... and it was Home Sweet Home.
