This is indeed an interesting place to visit coz there was just so much to see.
There are crickets, real huge ones used for cricket fight purpose. There was a huge chain of crickets being sold in bamboos or rattan mini ‘sepak takraw’. As we walk closer, the sound of crickets were so loud that I felt as though I was in a jungle.
There are lots of worms. Those used to feed fishes, birds, and also these huge cocoons type. I didn’t even know they were worms until I saw them moving and crawling. Damn creepy crawlies…
The Chinese just breed almost everything. From baby crickets, to baby tortoise, to baby frogs… yulks.
Very attractive and colorful birds.
A bird with a leash around it's neck. This is really cool!
After Bird Market, we went across the street to Dong Tai lu, the Antique Street. This is an interesting street as not only we can see many old artifacts, we could also see the life of traditional Shanghainese living in old shanghai lane houses.
Very colorful miniatures of Chairman Mao.
Dad saying 'Hi!' to Chairman Mao's mini statue.
Here are some old building structures, a very meaningful walk down Dong Tai road where we saw the way of life of the old Shanghainese. Took a peek into their houses and we could see narrow and dirty old kitchens and living hall.
Dad is adventurous enough to pose as one of the Shanghainese, relaxing in front of the lane houses. He also went into the housing alleys to have a look and pose for a picture.
I will definitely recommend these 2 places to visitors in Shanghai. Though they are not listed as one of the tourist spots, but it's really worth visiting as you can see hobbies of Shanghainese and have a look at the old Shanghainese house structure and the places they live in.
