Fakes for Celebrities

Have you guys heard of the news? A very famous gwai lou singer was in Shanghai not long ago and she bought a lot of fake LVs. LV somehow found out about it and sued that seller for selling to this famous star. I really pitied that seller. Buta-buta kena sued. How come LV did not sue the buyer for getting the fakes? Anyway, I guess it's humiliating enough to have her name published in the news.

I find this really ironic and comical. Asians, especially the Chinese are going around the world for shopping spree, buying genuine designer labels while the gwai lous are coming to China to get fakes.

So now each time I see this big famous face on magazines carrying LV, I know it’s fake! Muahahaha!

Charlotte, NC

I spent my last day in the states at Charlotte, North Carolina. Left office at 12pm and stopped by at a mall on the way to Charlotte for some shopping.

I am kinda proud of myself for driving independantly in the states and I did get a bit nervous entering the city. After some wrong turns and u-turns, I managed to find the hotel and parked safely.

Head out to areas nearby the hotel. This is really a financial center and half the population here are employees of Bank of America. Here are some pictures taken of this city:

I was staying at this hotel, The Omni Charlotte. It was a good hotel.

Todd brought me to a good Japanese restaurant for dinner and he showed me his home. Here is a picture taken with Mervyn, the Irish boy and Todd.

We went on to 2 pubs for a drink after that. I went back to hotel after midnight, shower, and slept for less than 3 hrs. Woke up around 5am in the morning to prepare for departure and return of the car to the rental company.

Some pictures of my food on board ANA. Some salmon something-something...

Desserts with Haagen Dazs ice cream and sorbet...

After the meal, I brushed my teeth and slept a good 10 hrs on this 14 hrs flight. I can only achieve this on business class. I can never sleep on economy.

Fug Tub Meeting

Fug tub meeting. That’s what I’m in the middle now. Feeling so sleepy because I woke up at 5am, can’t sleep, blah blah. Probably too much coffee during the day, or too much on my mind.

Photo sharing; My office area is so cool... just like a uni campus, with so much greens, lake, ducks...

One of the sophisticated training room:

Some area with the lake behind and ducks wandering around.

This is the hotel that I stayed in Davidson, North Carolina. Homewood Suites.

This is the car that I drove:

My dinner on day 2 with the guys...

The restaurant where we had our dinner, Harbor Club:

Not bad right? Worth the fug tub meeting la... haha! Going to Charlotte on Friday. Will blog about it soon.

Another US Trip

I have always dreaded going to the US, for 2 reasons. The long hour flight; and the fact that US, if you’re not gonna be at happening places like LA, NY, Vegas, San Francisco, it can be quite depressing.

This round, managed to get approval to fly on business class. This makes the journey so much more enjoyable. I have to thank my boss for approving this. Despite the current cost cutting measures, he still allow me (not some big manager or what) to fly biz class. Hehe! Anyway, I am really unsure why they are sending me over to US this round for one silly meeting. I saw the attendee list and freaked out… all the top level guys from the global team and I am supposed to represent AP?? I was like... huh!!??

Hate the last minute schedule, especially when I have planned for apartment viewings in Beijing. I have to cancel Sunday viewings just to fly and I have not even found a suitable apartment yet. Darn!

I am now at Narita airport ANA lounge, waiting for my flight NH0008 heading to San Francisco. How I wish that is the final destination in US. But no, I still need to take a flight to Charlotte, North Carolina. Don’t ask me where is that… beats me! Any places in US other than happening SF, NY, LA, Vegas, it’s really depressing. The fact that I still need to get the rental car upon arrival at Charlotte airport, then drive to Davidson (God knows where). Am not sure if I could drive in the ‘zombie’ state after the long hours flight.

Nothing much to do here other than eat, so I decided to write something instead of sitting here doing nothing. It has been 4 days that I did not log on to Facebook. A good break as I am getting addicted to that thing. Good thing in US is that I get to access FB and Blogspot freely… yay!!

Super Stressed Out Lately

I think I’m gonna break down soon. So much happened in a week.

Beginning of the week, I get confirmation from my Hubby that we will be relocating to Beijing, effective immediately!! OMG! Told my boss about it and he agreed to transfer me over. Thank God.

I rushed out to look for agents to get me a home in Beijing. Dear Hubby is already over there is currently staying at a serviced apartment. Have bought tickets to Beijing tomorrow to view a couple of units. Movers were also contacted, quotes given (at super high speed), visited my place for an estimation of cubic meters of space required.

Today, BOOM! Email saying that I need to fly to US this Sunday for a 3 days meeting in US. WTF!!!!! As if my schedule is not hectic enough… I will DIE with all these flying around. OMG!!!

Do I have a choice? I'm a modern slave…and the answer is NO. No choice. Go US, or risk losing my job.

Google Legalised the illegal

Google China has allowed users to download songs legally in order to fight with China's national search engine, Baidu. It doesn't really make any difference to me since I have been downloading songs illegally from Baidu. But since Google claims that we could now legally download songs from their site, I went into Google.cn to search for mp3s.

It is indeed much easier to download songs from Google instead of Baidu, so I am switching to Google for Mp3s download from today onwards. Yohooo!!! Free MP3s... legally!!! For the first time.. I am loving China internet!!!

Transformers 2

I remember I blogged about Transformers back in 2007. Now it’s time for the sequel.

WARNING *** HEAVY MOVIE SPOILERS IN THIS POST***

Hey, did anyone spotted the Malaysian Airline logo in the very beginning of the movie? I saw it, but none of my friends in the movie with me did.

My opinion of the movie: AWESOME yet DISAPPOINTING!

Yes, it still had my jaws dropped at many “Transform!” scene. However, I find there is an anti climax. The part between Optimus Prime dead until he was resurrected was too long. It took too long for Sam to get to Optimus, resurrect him, and when that was done, we were all geared for a great fight between Optimus, Megatron and The Fallen. But disappointment. Optimus took less than 5 minutes to have both defeated. OMG!! Why spend so much time on human characters running around Decepticons and Autobots when what we really wanted to see was the fight between the 2 great machines? Really ‘potong steam’!

But overall, I still love this movie. Just wished that the final battle should be longer than a mere 5 minutes. Optimus is as sexy as ever… love him!

Office Donkeys

I used to work in a project for a company… I don’t want to mention name, but everyone in Malaysia will know this company. The reason I am writing this is because I am darn bored now, and I do keep in touch with some very good ex-colleagues over there. For those who knows me, who knows my profession, will know that I work very closely with people from Finance.

About this company, never in my life, NEVER, have I seen such a company which portrait such poor teamwork. Almost every meeting I attended is about fighting and arguing. Finance team especially, have several female leaders. They are SO, SO, FAKE!!!! Everyone has their own hidden agenda, every sentence they utter, you have to ‘read between the lines’. I am so tired of attending the meetings and facing the bitches there that sometimes, I just attend the meeting for the sake of being there. I used to feel so depressed because I cannot understand how I ended up in such a sick working environment. Really sick!

Their faces looked exactly like this when they start their cat fights:

I was chatting with this friend of mine, and I asked her whether has anything changed after so many years. It is still the same and as she was typing her MSN message out to me, she was in a cat fight meeting. Again, 2 women from Finance doing their cat fights. I am telling you, seriously, this company has donkeys working in there especially the finance team. The team is so darn huge which makes things worst. Too many female leaders and those males working under them are all donkeys. I do not think that a capable male would continue working under these bitches for more than 3 months.

For my friends who are still there, I am glad you guys are not in that donkey department. But I feel so sorry that you guys still need to be involved in their donkey business. Hang in there… just treat them like a circus, then you’ll be fine!

Poison Pen Letter

Something really interesting happened in my office a few months back. We occupied 3 levels, level 9, 10 and11, mainly occupied by different businesses at each level. As we know, in any work place, there may be many ham sap lous and also hiao pohs.

There is one guy, not really a big shot, but he is part of the upper management team seated at level 9. He has his own room with his big name on the door. He is married and I don’t know how he got involved with this single girl from the same level, same business unit.

Somehow, his wife found out about the relationship and took some action. The wife wrote a letter detailing the kan-fu-yam-fu’s relationship, the phone calls, the sms-es, etc; made copies of the letter and send them to my company, addressed to specific designation and titles, like Finance Manager, Finance Controller, HR Director, IT Manager, etc… So every managers and above on each level gets a copy of the interesting letter. I am not sure how this letter got leaked out to the non-managers, somehow, I get this news. And because the letter was written in Chinese I didn’t get the juicy details. Darn! I hate myself for not knowing how to read Chinese!

As curious as everyone else, I went down to level 9 to have a look at who these people are. The ‘lou’ – not good looking. The ‘lui’ – not very pretty. Both of them are still working here.

Gosh... this is really bad. What will you do if you were in this situation? This is really so, so, embarrassing. I can't imagine if it happens to me.

Apartments are like Roti in China

I really need to blog about this. My colleagues here are talking about buying and selling houses like it’s roti boy back in KL. Houses means, Apartments.

Last Thursday, this guy from Wujiang factory who stays in Suzhou (45 mins drive away from Shanghai. Something like Senawang or Port Klang) says that his apartment is too small and that he wanted to sell it. Today, he said it has been sold, in less than 3 days of listing. OMG!!!! The Chinese are buying and selling houses as if they are roti boys in KL. And this guy is buying another house today. OMG!!!

Another colleague bought an apartment in Shanghai with a size of 100 sq meter at RMB13,000 per sq meter; not at the center of Shanghai, somewhere a bit far (comparatively like Serdang) That’s 1.3 million yuan for the entire apartment and that was in February 2009. I don’t want to further elaborate that he paid RMB600k cash as down payment. I nearly faint just listening to them talking about this everyday during lunch. Today, his apartment is worth RMB16,000 per sq meter, that’s 1.6million yuan. If he list it for sale, it would be grabbed up like hot cakes within days and he would make RMB300,000 just like that, within 4 months!

What is this!!??? I have been listing my house for sale in KL like for 3 years!!! And I only get donkey people viewing the house for fun and no serious buyers. WTF!!!

人生如梦

I just sent Mum & Dad to airport and on the way back, I was thinking about life. It's just like a dream. I remember the day Mum & Dad arrived in Shanghai, it was a Sunday morning. It was Mother's Day in fact. I bought them around the area near my apartment and thought them how to take the subway. Now, they are heading back to KL again. It was just like a blink of an eye. I traveled back to Shanghai from the airport with a heavy heart.

This is life... full of departures. I get the same feeling each time I head back to Shanghai from home, and I guess Mum & Dad felt the same too. I came back to an empty home again, and did some cleaning. No more home cooked food awaiting me when I get back from work tomorrow. My life has been adjusted back to normal again, and for the past 3 weeks, it was just like a dream.

A Hike up the World's Longest Arch Bridge

Today, I brought my parents to Lupu Bridge, Shanghai - the longest arch bridge in the world, bearing a 550m-long arch span. This bridge is one of the bridges connecting Shanghai's Puxi to Pudong. I didn't know that this is the longest arch bridge in the world until I googled and read about it.

I wonder why this isn't listed as one of Shanghai's tourist spot beause to me, it is a must-see site. I only get to know that we are allowed to climb to the top of the arch after living in Shanghai for more than 3 years. What a shame!

A view at the bottom of the bridge, admiring the art and wonders of engineering. It's amazing how engineering changed our lives.

Mum & Dad standing at the bottom of the arch, with the World Expo construction at the background.

A pose with Haibao, the mascot of World Expo 2010. To me, it looks like a tooth, but it is actually a Chinese word ‘人‘ (human).

The Lupu Bridge. I always see this on my way to airport. Didn't know that we could actually hike up the arch of the bridge.

Going up...

The World Expo 2010 construction site.

The Huangpu River view from the arch.

Boats and ships sailing along the Huangpu River.

Getting higher and scarier. I realized I am afraid of heights. I dare not go anywhere near the the edge of the arch.

The China Pavilion on the Pudong side of the World Expo site. I wish I can be here again next year to take a picture of the completed site.

At the peak of the arch, overlooking to the Pudong side.

At the peak of the arch, overlooking to the Puxi side.

Bye bye bridge... going down.

Great site to visit in Shanghai. This is another place I would definitely recommend friends and visitors!
